Do creators need a business license?

Updated: 11.12.2025
This information applies to creators based in the Czech Republic. Tax and business requirements may differ in other countries. Creators outside the Czech Republic should consult their local tax advisor to understand the rules that apply to them.

Content creation on Creatsub may fall under different legal categories depending on how often and in what scope a creator publishes. Having a business license is not required in all cases — it depends on the nature of the activity.

Author’s work under Czech copyright law
According to the Czech Copyright Act (Act No. 121/2000 Coll.), authors may provide their works for use without any income limits.

Income from creative work may be taxed as:
- author royalties,
  • - business income, if the activity shows signs of entrepreneurship.
The Czech Copyright Act does not limit how much an author can earn.

When a business license is recommended
A trade license is usually recommended when the creative work is:
- regular
  • - systematic
  • - performed with the intention of earning income

In such cases, the activity typically meets the definition of a business activity under Czech tax law.

What we recommend
Tax obligations vary depending on:
  • - frequency of creative work,
  • - income level,
  • - whether the work is the creator’s main or secondary activity,
  • - whether multiple income categories apply.

Creators should consult a qualified tax advisor in their own country or region, as regulations differ internationally.

Creatsub does not influence tax obligations. The platform only provides the technical environment for creators to monetize their work.
